I had the pleasure of knowing Patrick for 50 years. I first met him when his lovely wife, Anne(the love of his life) was the secretary at St. Peter School. I continued a friendship with both him and Anne that has spanned 5 decades.
Most recently, I would visit them in their apartment in Cherry Hill where I was often greeted at the door by a white haired man with a puzzled look who said "Oh, it's YOU again!" followed by "Anne, it's that friend of yours that we didn't invite." Then Patrick would smile as he closed the door and we began our visit. He often walked me down the hallway when I left, always making sure I was safely on my way.
To me Patrick will always be the true Irish gentleman- gracious with a sense of humor and a touch of the devil.
I will still stop to visit my dear friend Anne in the days and weeks to come but I will sorely miss that man in the doorway waiting for me to appear without an invitation. I sincerely hope he will be waiting for me at the Gates when I appear there someday uninvited.
Rest in Peace, Patrick!
