Obituary of Bernard W. Satchell Sr.

Bernard W. Satchell, age 83, of Glassboro, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on May 16, 2026.

Born in Salisbury, Maryland in 1943 to the late Bernard and Irene (nee Stanford) Satchell, Bernard was the second eldest of four children. Bernard moved to New Jersey during his elementary school years and attended Camden City Public Schools until his graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School where he competed on the school’s varsity track and field team.

Bernard was a U.S. Army Veteran who served our country from 1964 to 1966 during the time of the Vietnam War. His military service included Military Police duties and earned decorations/medals such as “Expert Marksman,” “Good Conduct,” and a “National Defense Service Medal.”

Bernard worked as an expert brick mason and craftsmen who elevated to become owner and operator of B & B Masonry. Thereafter, Azcon Construction Company (Pennsauken, NJ) coveted his stellar craftsmanship and eventually hired him as foreman to lead their company. Likewise, Bernard was a longtime member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union (BAC Local 5).

Prior to retirement, Bernard shared his expertise with the youth from the City of Camden, serving as a teacher and mentor for the HACC YouthBuild Academy, which provided vocational skills training in the construction field for young adults ages 17 to 24 years of age.

Bernard was an avid bowler and fisherman whose hobbies included cooking, baking sweet potato pies, hunting, and collecting coins.

Bernard was the beloved husband of 53 years to the late Frances I Satchell; and the devoted father of four, Bernard W. Jr., Dereck T. Sr. (Brigette), Marc Steven Sr. (Yasheka) and Greg Satchell; Loving grandfather to 7 grandsons, Sean, Dereck Jr., Matthew, Bernard III, Aharon, Elijah, and Marc Jr.; 5 granddaughters, Brittany, Tyra, Lauryn, Rachel and Michelle; Cherished great grandfather of Londyn; Dear brother of Diane Thomas (Isaiah), Domita Satchell and the late Phyllis Arthur (Walter); He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Ingram family in-laws (Butch, Jimmy, Billy, Timmy, Edie, and Jengy).

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Mr. Bernard Satchell at his graveside service on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, beginning at 11 AM at Lakeview Memorial Park, Route 130 North in Cinnaminson.
