Selena, Charlie, Patrick, Bridget and the Mangan family,
It is with great sorrow that I learned of Charlie’s passing. My deepest sympathy.
I first met Charlie in the mid to late 1940’s in Berkeley, R.I. Little did I know at that
time that our friendship would last a lifetime.
Charlie excelled in school even at an early age. Charlie attended Classical High
School and subsequently Brown, Seton Hall, and HUP, to name a few schools
he attended.
Charlie’s career in medicine was remarkable. Joining the faculty at HUP, his
numerous peer-review articles, ground-breaking research in the gynecology-oncology
field, and being named “Top Doc” in Philadelphia Magazine to name a few of his
accomplishments. Charlie had an outstanding reputation at Penn. in the gynecological-
oncology field. Charlie made all of these accomplishments under difficult circumstances.
Charlie was also very compassionate with respect to his patients and very modest, as well.
Charlie was very proud of his family, particularly with respect to their academic achievements.
Charlie was especially proud when there was a new addition to the Mangan clan.
As a close friend, I am proud of Charlie’s remarkable accomplishments in life. Charlie was an
outstanding doctor/surgeon and an even better friend. Charlie was a tremendous individual and
I was blessed to be a part of his life.
Charlie was fun to be around and Charlie unquestionably help make the world a
better place. Charlie did so much for so many.
Charlie leaves a terrific legacy. I will miss him tremendously.
God bless Charlie.

I have no words to adequately describe Dr. Mangan. As a long-time patient, I am forever grateful to him. Kind, caring, compassionate and a doctor who truly listened to his patients and their concerns. RIP Dr. Mangan. Your work here is done, but the impact you had on the medical community and your patients will live on forever. Truly a life well-lived.
My condolences to your family,
Suzanne Charlett

Selena, Charlie, Patrick, Bridget and the Mangan family,
It is with great sorrow that I learned of Charlie’s passing. My deepest sympathy.
I first met Charlie in approximately the late 1940’s. Little did I know at the time
that our friendship would last a lifetime.
Charlie excelled in school even at an early age. Charlie subsequently attended
Classical High School and, of course, eventually attended Brown, Seton Hall and
Penn.
Charlie’s career in medicine is remarkable. Joining the faculty at HUP, his numerous
peer-review articles, ground-braking research into gynecological oncology, and being
named “Top Doc” in Philadelphia Magazine, to name a few of his many accomplishments.
As an aside, one surgeon who was at Penn. at the same time as Charlie in the
gynecological/oncology unit told me Charlie’s work in the gynecological/oncology field
was “legendary”.
Charlie was very compassionate with respect to his patients and very modest, as well.
Charlie was really fun to be around and Charlie, unquestionably, helped make the world a better
place. Charlie did so much for so many.
Charlie leaves a terrific legacy. I will miss him very much.
God bless Charlie

Selena, Charlie, Patrick, Brigid & the entire family,
Sending my condolences & prayers to you all. Charlie was a wonderful man & great physician. We worked together in OB-Gyn from his internship to staff physician at PGH & we’ were still friends after we both retired. He had a major impact on gyn-oncology care & research & a beautiful family legacy thru his three sons & their families. He spoke so proudly of you all. I spent time with the young boys at the Avalon house & met Selena in RI. May his love for you remain in your heart always! Rest in peace, my friend Chas!
